About the role We’re looking for a campaigner to join us from now until 31 July 2012 to help us uphold human rights in Israel, the Occupied Palestinian Territories and the Palestinian Authority. Working as part of the East Mediterranean Team at the International Secretariat, you will act as a focal point providing advice and support to our worldwide membership, including devising campaigning strategies, preparing written and other campaigning materials and providing research support. About you You will have excellent campaigning skills and experience and good organizational and communication skills, including the ability to prioritize. You will have detailed knowledge, preferably including field experience, of Israel, the Occupied Palestinian Territories and the Palestinian Authority and will need to show impartiality and have knowledge of and commitment to human rights. You must also have strong research skills, an understanding of membership organizations and the capability both to work on your own initiative and as a member of a team, often under pressure. You will need to be fluent in English and have a good working knowledge of spoken and written Arabic; knowledge of Hebrew is desirable. | |
JOB PURPOSE: To develop and implement campaigning strategies, managing and coordinating actions on human rights concerns by using and developing knowledge on specific countries or other geographical and thematic areas, and supporting and liaising with the Amnesty International movement and outside networks to ensure maximum impact. Reporting to: Programme Director / Deputy Programme Director Posts that this job manages: This post has no line management responsibility. However, the campaigner participates in the coordination of the work of the team, other participants in campaigning projects, temporary staff and team volunteers. Other key relationships: The campaigner works in close collaboration with the researcher, the research and campaign assistant and the regional campaign coordinator and, where relevant, other posts in the International Secretariat and in the Amnesty International movement. | |

Salary: Full time salary of £32,256 per annum (pro rata for part time staff) Hours: 35 hours per week Location: Central London Contract duration: Fixed term contract ending on 31st July 2012 Holidays: Full time staff receive 27 days per annum plus two Amnesty International grace day and statuatory and national public holidays. Office hours: 09.30 - 17.30 or 10.00 - 18.00 by arrangement Life insurance: Amnesty International provide a Death in Service benefit of 4 x gross salary. Pension: After six consecutive months of service staff are automatically enrolled in the Amnesty International Superannuation Scheme. This is a defined contribution to which Amnesty International contributes 7.5% of gross salary and will match individual employee contributions up to an additional 3%. Probation: A six month probation period will be included in the contract for this position. Relocation: A generous relocation assistance package will be available for staff members (and their dependents) recruited from over 80km/50 miles from the International Secretariat office in which the post is based.
