The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) is seeking candidates for internships with the Institute’s programs in the Southern and East Africa region to begin as soon as April 2011.
The intern will be responsible for conducting country and program-specific research, editing and writing, helping organize events, and providing administrative support for country programs.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the backstopping of field offices activities;
- Research and gather materials for specific in-country programs;
- Assist in the preparation and drafting of periodic reports;
- Provide administrative support to assigned country programs, including filing, faxing, copying, mailing, and/or event preparation; and
- Conduct special projects as needed.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated interest in international affairs and democracy development;
- Well-organized. Ability to take initiative and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced office;
- Strong writing, editing and verbal skills;
- Detail-oriented and ability to follow through with inquiries as well as meet deadlines;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong sense of professionalism;
- Ability to work independently and with a team;
- Positive attitude;
- Portuguese language skills highly desirable; and
- A recent graduate or generally pursing an undergraduate or graduate program; relevant coursework might include political science, international affairs, international development and international law.
Comments:
This is a paid internship. The intern will work with and report directly to the Senior Program Manager for Angola and Mozambique.
Interns are encouraged to attend workshops, lectures and other staff development events at NDI.
