Nuru International’s Fellows Program is an opportunity for talented and motivated professionals to use their skills to affect real social change by working directly with communities in rural Kenya to end extreme poverty. Flights, accommodation, travel insurance and a modest living allowance will be provided; as well as a 2-week intensive training at Stanford University prior to leaving, and flights for a 3-week vacation in the middle of the rotation.

Position Overview:
Nuru’s Community Economic Development (CED) Fellow Program has two main objectives: training and microfinance. Training individuals, groups, and staff in financial planning, budgeting, saving, borrowing, and repaying is a fundamental role of the CED Fellow. Managing and expanding Nuru’s CDF (Community Development Fund) is the other core responsibility of the CED Fellow.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Train and mentor the CED Program team
• Empower local leaders in the CED Program to continually take more and more ownership of the program and the CDF
• Maintain and expand Nuru’s MIS (MIFOS)
• Maintain and expand Nuru’s Mobile Banking Initiative
• Ensure the CED Program is truly sustainable and scalable
• Achieve pre-determined seasonal goals
• Oversee Nuru’s loan disbursements and repayments
• Implement and further develop financial trainings for individuals, groups, and staff
• Manage program budget efficiently to meet pre-determined goals
• Develop and implement CED interventions to meet the needs of Nuru’s members
• Help to develop new monitoring tools to evaluate impact of the CED Program
• Refine existing program metrics to improve accuracy in its reflection of the community poverty level and operational effectiveness
• Recruit new members and scale to new communities within the CED Program expansion framework
Specific Skills and Attributes (additional to the General Requirements for the Nuru Fellows Program):
• Bachelors degree in Business, Finance, or International Development, MBA preferred
• At least 2 years experience in microfinance or finance
• Minimum 2 years of project management
• Experience working on an MIS (MIFOS experience preferred)
• Solid quantitative skills and experience with Excel
• Prior experience living and/or working in the Developing World
• High commitment to organization’s mission and theory of change
• Strong work ethic
• Strong leadership and team building experience
• Ability to do crisis management and rapid, innovative problem solving in uncertain environments
