Haiti Research Project Coordinator

Organizational Profile:
Partners In Health (PIH) is a non-profit corporation based in Boston, Massachusetts, whose mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. Through service delivery, training, research, and advocacy, PIH works globally to bring the benefits of modern science to those most in need. PIH currently has programs in Boston, Haiti, Peru, Rwanda, Lesotho, Malawi, Russia and Kazakhstan, with partner projects in Guatemala, Mexico, Burundi, Mali, Liberia and Nepal.

Position Description:
The Research Project Coordinator supports all activities related to the implementation of an NIH funded research grant to investigate tailored food assistance for people living with HIV in the Artibonite department in Haiti. The Research Project Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to manage the day-to-day execution of research aims at the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), who is also the Chief of Mission for Partners In Health, Haiti. This involves interaction with Zanmi Lasante (ZL) staff, Partners In Health staff, and communication with a Boston-based research assistant regarding progress and administration of the grant (expenses, reporting, etc.). The candidate for this position must be highly self motivated and possess the initiative to move the research forward under often challenging constraints of the study setting, have the confidence to troubleshoot problems with local ZL staff, and be able to discern which issues require direction from the PI.

Specific Responsibilities:
- Organize and conduct trainings as needed with study staff.
- Oversee study staff, provide periodic feedback on areas in need of improvement.
- Assist in the preparation, formatting, and field testing of questionnaires, surveys and training materials for research activities.
- Anticipate problem areas to the successful implementation of the project and propose courses of action to resolve these issues.
- Data cleaning and management.
- Liaise with grants management staff in Boston as necessary (regarding budgeting and progress reporting)
- Liaise with Haiti-based research collaborators as necessary.
- Remain in close contact via e-mail or phone with the PI.
- Assist in preparing, writing, and editing research study abstracts and reports for submission and publication in professional journals.
- Build Power Point, Excel, and other related tools for staff trainings, and to increase the overall understanding of study aims.
- Provide periodic, comprehensive updates to the PI on overall progress toward fulfilling study aims.

Requirements:
- A degree in the health sciences, public health or a related field. An advanced degree with background in nutritional sciences preferred.
- Fluency in English and Haitian Creole (preferred) or French.
- At least 2 years of experience within a public health care setting, preferably in a developing country.
- Experience in implementing research studies or public health program evaluations in a developing country setting.
- Demonstrated possession of excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability managing complexity and prioritizing multiple tasks.
- Serious attention to detail is essential.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as in a collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated ability to interact professionally within culturally diverse settings.
- Experience with computer applications.
- A strong commitment to social justice.
