Prospect Research and Management Associate

Primary Purpose of Job:
Create and manage NIF’s donor prospect research and management function; work closely with fundraising staff on devising and documenting cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies; and ensure that proper systems and data maintenance are in place to support these activities. This is a newly created key position, which will result in improving the way in which the organization develops donor prospects, and ultimately, to enhancing the ability of the organization to improve its fundraising performance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish policies and procedures to create, document, and maintain an effective prospect research and moves management tracking and tickler system, including coordination with various departments. Maintain system;
  • Conduct donor prospecting and research (by request and proactively), using internet, subscription services, print, electronic, in-house files, interviews with staff and volunteers, and other sources of information;
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues to identify, rate, assign, and review current donors and new prospects, as well as devise prospect/donor relationship strategies;
  • Identify and utilize tools to mine data for maximum impact;
  • Play a key role on the fundraising team, which could include writing of letters, proposals, and presentation and support materials;
  • Stay abreast of NIF programs and developing knowledge of the organization;

Qualifications:

  • Min. 3 yrs. experience conducting major gifts prospect research;
  • Experience with moves management policies and procedures;
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in data mining and scoring prospects;
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize research and to develop and adapt strategies appropriately;
  • Experience with and knowledge of broad uses of donor databases and contacts management, with a strong preference for Raisers Edge or equivalent CRM database;
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee data integrity and to coordinate systems that improve efficiency;
  • Outstanding planning, written and oral communication, time management and organizational skills;
  • Must be resourceful and anticipatory and able to work cooperatively with other departments;
  • Strong computer skills: MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Database/Reporting tools, Outlook and Internet;
  • Ability to prioritize ongoing vs. immediate needs. Ability to work well under pressure and with deadlines
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
