Program description:
SAFE created the On-Call Advocacy Program (OCAP) to provide on-call staff and volunteer advocates for domestic violence victims who contact the Metropolitan Police Department when DC Superior Court services are unavailable.Response Line Advocates are able to provide services over the phone and coordinate in person meetings.
- safety planning;
- legal information;
- access to Crime Victim’s Compensation applications;
- emergency shelter;
- access to the Emergency Temporary Protection Order (ETPO) process; and
- next-day follow-up from a SAFE Advocate.
OCAP advocates can also assist MPD officers and detectives by answering questions about victim resources, protection orders, and other legal options for domestic violence victims. OCAP advocates collaborate closely with police officers and the community to build
awareness about OCAP services, and about domestic violence as a public safety issue.
Requirements: B.A. or the equivalent, OR 1-2 years of experience with crisis intervention work.
-Maintain detailed records regarding calls for service through the Response Line.
-Work with other DV agencies to provide comprehensive services to victims.
-Provide crisis intervention, safety planning and resources to victims of domestic violence.
-Ensure proper materials about the Response Line are available for community partners and the general public, as well as keeping the Response Line resources up to date.
-Participate in trainings to enhance knowledge of domestic violence.
-Participate in outreach concerning the Response Line services and protocols via community outreach, media campaigns, and trainings with community organizations.
-Attend community meetings/trainings/events as necessary to promote OCAP/Response Line services. Network with members of the community and assist in recruiting volunteers.
-Provide supervision for the Response Line volunteers.
-Coordinate with the OCAP Coordinator to provide 40 hour training for volunteer call takers.
-Supervise the implementation of new resources and ensure that call takers are following established referral mechanisms and screening.
-Attendance to a monthly staff and programmatic meeting.
-Some non traditional work hours (nights and weekends).
-Spanish language skills preferred, but not necessary.

$38,000 per annum, full benefits

-Experience working with law enforcement.
-Experience with the criminal and civil legal system
Non-traditional work hours: evenings, weekends and holidays.
