Climate Change Programme Officer

WWF Madagascar/West Indian Ocean Programme Office is looking for a Climate Change Programme Officer. This position is based in Antananarivo.

I. Mission of the Departement

To develop and implement the WWF MWIOPO conservation strategy and plan in accordance with national and regional policies of the Madagascar and Western Indian Ocean islands region, and in compliance with WWF’s Global Programme Framework and programme and projects management standards.

II. Major Functions

- Develop WWF programs’ capacity and knowledge to capture climate change in conservation and develop appropriate and effective response to cope with its impacts.

- Support the Program in all issues related to climate change adaptation.

- Ensure effective implementation of climate change projects in accordance with the overall strategy of the Programme (WWF MWIOPO Conservation Plan and Adaptation Action Plan) and in synergy with the other WWF projects/programmes

- Coordinate a regional network of climate change adaptation practionners within the WWF Africa and Madagascar Programme.

III. Major Duties and Responsabilities :

Technical Aspects

Madagascar and WIO Climate Change Adaptation Programme :

- Support the Program in the development, planning and implementation of climate change adaptation projects;

- Support the Program in the development of new initiatives contributing to the achievement of the Conservation Plan and the Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan and develop proposals to be submitted to the donors;

- Build and reinforce WWF staff capacity and knowledge on climate change, its impacts and responses especially adaptation;

- Promote the integration of the climate change adaptation in all WWF projects;

- Support the (i) the gathering, compiling and communication of climate change information, knowledge and scientific data, especially those related to Madagascar and the West Indian Ocean region and (ii) the development of a comprehensive data base on climate change adaptation;

- Support the Geographic Information System Unit in the integration of the climate change issue in the priority-setting process and analysis;

- In close collaboration with the Footprint Program Coordinator, who holds the lead on climate change mitigation, represent WWF in the National Committee on Climate Change,

- Ensure the development and smooth running of workshops, conferences, seminars and any other form of meetings related to climate change adaptation;

- Inform the Program on current issues and trends regarding climate change, and climate change-related research;

- Support Project Officer to ensure that climate change projects are planned and implemented according to WWF project management standards;

- Represent the Programme in meetings with partners, when appropriate.

Coordination with key offices of the Africa and Madagascar Climate Change Adaptation Network, initially focusing on the ESA region (ESARPO and CEA):

- Conduct an inventory and develop a database of WWF people and projects working on climate change adaptation in the region

- Plan and lead an assessment of state of knowledge, capacity and gaps of selected WWF programs and country offices

- Lead in the development of a regional strategy and workplan to support climate change adaptation development and integration into WWF programs

- Develop tools and means to facilitate learning and exchange (website, listserves, newsletter, meetings, etc.) within the Africa and Madagascar Climate Change Adaptation Network

- Keep abreast of new developments in the field of climate change adaptation (methodologies, tools, funding opportunities, training opportunities, policy) and ensure appropriate dissemination to network members.

- Maintain close and regular contact with climate change adaptation focal points in WWF offices in the region and within the larger WWF global network (NCAT, ELAN) as well as with other appropriate fora outside WWF.

Administrative and Financial aspects

- Support the Climate Change Programme staff to ensure that climate change projects are planned, implemented and reviewed according to WWF standards on administrative and financial management;

- Contribute to efforts to ensure adequate funding for climate adaptation work in MWIOPO and for support to the Madagascar and Africa Climate Change Adaptation Network

- Ensure the quality and timeliness of annual, bi-annual and quarterly work plans for climate change projects and the regional network and ensure coordination with other WWF projects;

- Ensure the quality and timeliness of quarterly, bi-annual and annual technical reports to donors and WWF International;

- Maintain a regular communication with donors, respond to their requests and provide support in the organization of their visits to Madagascar;

- Ensure the follow-up of all contracts (providers, consultants and researchers), establish and monitor the budgets;

- With the support of the Project Support Officer, monitor the financial health of the projects: funding status, budgets, financial reports, burn-rate;

- Supervise the climate change projects staff;

- Contribute to the preparation and the coordination of the internal and external evaluation of climate change projects.

IV. Profile :

Required Qualifications and experiences:

- At least 5 year-experience in applied researches related to climate change adaptation;

- At least Masters Degree in Biology, Agronomy, Forestry, Earth Science or equivalent;

- Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, E- mail); background on database management and GIS tools (Arcview, ArcGIS etc) would be an asset.

Required Skills and Competencies:

- Strong analysis, conceptualization and long term vision capacity; proven experience in the design, implementation, and direction of complex and diverse projects, encompassing multiple programs;

- Proven capacity to generate successful collaboration with partner institutions;

- Excellent communication and writing skills in French and English;

- Capacity to work in a multidisciplinary team;

- Willingness to travel frequently (up to 30% of time) in the Region for work-related meetings.

V. Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provide supportive supervision and monitoring of program staff;

- Support capacity-building plans

- Conduct annual performance reviews according to WWF procedures

- Identify a potential successor(s), develop and implement a succession plan with a transition within 2-3 years.

Esarpo Head of Marine Programme and M&E Officer Jobs in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is one of the World’s largest International Conservation Non Governmental Organization, working towards the conservation of nature and sustainable development.

WWF has recently established a major regional programme - the “Coastal East Africa Initiative” (CEA-NI), based in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, but working on biodiversity conservation and sustainable development issues across the Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique region.

WWF is seeking to recruit qualified candidates for the following two positions to work on the CEA-NI. The two positions will report to the Leader, Coastal East Africa Initiative.

1. Head of Marine Programme
  • Takes lead in the achievement of the Marine-related goals as set out in the CEA-NI Conservation Plan;
  • Responsible for the transformation of tuna management in the Western Indian Ocean region and the certification of shrimp fisheries in Mozambique;
  • provides technical support to the field-level marine conservation work in WWF Country offices, ensuring alignment with the CEA-NI Conservation Plan and coordination with the NI’s regional marine policy program;
  • drives national, regional and international policy formulation on marine and fisheries governance, trade in fisheries, and marine climate change, delivering results through lobbying and negotiation.
Requirements:
  • MSc degree or higher in the field of Marine Sciences or relevant environmental disciplines;
  • At least 10 years overall professional experience, of which at least 5 years in Eastern Africa, working, in a senior management position on a major conservation programme;
  • Proven experience on engaging with actors at a high level - corporate and government;
  • Strong understanding of sustainable fisheries, fisheries governance, MPAs
2. Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Officer
  • Leads on all aspects of monitoring, evaluation and reporting for the CEA Initiative, including technical aspects thereof (e.g. mapping, database management,etc.).
  • Role includes extensive work with field teams including training, planning, oversight of monitoring and alignment of field work to the goals of the Initiative.
Requirements:
  • MSc in Environmental Sciences;
  • at least 7 years working experience in M&E related environmental issues and/or development context;
  • knowledge of GIS;
  • excellent writing and interpersonal skills.
Location: Both positions will be based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Terms: Two year fixed term contract (renewable); competitive salary and benefits package which is commensurate with the experience and responsibilities of the posts is offered.

IT Financial Systems Support Specialist

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the global conservation organization, seeks an IT Financial Systems Support Specialist to provide daily technical support for its financial systems which include Oracle Enterprise Business Suite (EBS), Hyperion Planning, and Hyperion Financial Reporting. The Support Specialist will have a strong technical background and work as a team member to maintain financial systems and provide application support to end users of finance and accounting applications.

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in IT and at least two years of DBA experience with Oracle databases is required. Exposure to Oracle 11g, Oracle EBS, Hyperion System 11, OEM for database monitoring, PL/SQL, SQL and database tools such as TOAD and PL/SQL Developer are highly desired. Experience with Linux OS, XML Publisher, Hyperion administrative and development tools, and Essbase are a plus. Strong technical troubleshooting and data analysis ability, verbal and written communication skills, documentation experience, and the ability to organize and prioritize projects and tasks appropriately are essential.

Sr. Program Officer, Coastal East Africa

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the global conservation organization, seeks a Sr. Program Officer (SPO) to plan, manage, coordinate, communicate, and implement program priorities and activities in the Coastal East Africa (CEA) region of Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique. The SPO will develop and plan eco-regional, thematic, or field projects to build WWF’s profile and knowledge in support of regional conservation priorities. This person will also serve as a liaison between CEA and home office departments, coordinate joint project activities with other WWF departments, and assist in implementing their priorities where related to conservation in CEA. S/he will also assist in fundraising efforts from U.S. donors for the resources needed to implement field programs and ensure access to necessary specialized technical assistance, partnerships and funding. Maintaining relationships with the WWF Network and external partners is a key part of being successful in this role.

A Bachelors degree is required. A graduate degree or equivalent experience in natural resources management, environmental science, international development, or conservation policy is preferred. A minimum of five years of experience in program management, biodiversity conservation, or natural resources management as well as an understanding of international conservation issues is also required. 2 years work experience in Africa is necessary. Fluency in Portuguese and/or Swahili is desirable. Must be eligible to work in the U.S. No visa sponsorship or international relocation will be provided.

Sr. Program Officer, Coastal East Africa

Program Officer, Climate Change

Deputy Director, Foundation Relations

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the global conservation organization, seeks a Deputy Director for Foundation Relations. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Director to co-lead the 8-person Foundation Relations team in setting strategies and implementing WWF’s foundation philanthropy program. The position will also share responsibility with the Director for annual revenue goals in excess of $11 million to produce strong portfolio growth. In working collaboratively with Program staff, this person will also manage a portfolio of relationships with professional foundations, lead the development of major proposals, ensure strong stewardship of existing grants, and directly supervise a staff of three.

Deputy Director, Foundation Relations

Program Officer, Africa & Madagascar

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the global conservation organization, seeks a Program Officer (PO) for its Africa & Madagascar Program (AMP) to identify and secure new funding streams though writing proposals for submission to donors (individuals, US Government, foundations, etc.). Under the leadership of the Managing Director for the Congo Basin, the PO will work directly with US-based and field staff to assure synergy and communication with Development, Government Partnerships, Strategic Agreements, and Program Operations. The PO will identify requests for proposals and other opportunities, and determine technical requirements and other needs related to proposal development. S/he will keep abreast of and advise the Africa & Madagascar Team of new funding and strategic opportunities.

A bachelor's degree in English, business, business communications, journalism, environment, conservation, development or a related field is required. Position requires at least three years of proposal writing and/or editing experience with demonstrated success in securing funding. A strong command of the English language including demonstrated writing and editing skills and an ability to translate complicated or technical ideas into proposal-appropriate language is required. Familiarity with the donor community and the international conservation and/or rural development sectors is desirable. French language skills would be an asset.

This is a part-time limited term (not to exceed 1 year) position located in Washington, DC. The position may be extended based on available funding.

Development Officer, Annual Giving
