Jamii Social Business Center (JSBC) is a social business research and implementation center based in Arusha, Tanzania. JSBC is seeking an Agriculture Project Manager to lead the program in Arusha, Tanzania with heavy presence in the project village Endaberg and Babati Town (in the Manyara Region).
Position Summary: The regional Agriculture Project Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, coordination and promotion of JSBC’s integrated agriculture social business to serve as an income generator for small-scale farmers. To achieve this goal, JSBC is developing an integrated agriculture approach focused on three objectives:
- supporting the expansion of small holder farmers in various high yielding crops - facilitating access to inputs and advancements in science and technology;
- strengthening market access and facilitating investment in storage and processing equipment. Profile: JSBC is driven by a need to reach concrete and measurable goals. It will be the Agriculture Project Manager’s task to lead the integrated agriculture business to sustainability and high profitability. This is a challenging position where the ideal candidate will be looking for a result driven, entrepreneurial working environment, which combines business success with strong, tangible social impact. The candidate will be convinced by the benefits of social business and be highly motivated to lead the team, work with partners, and engage with community leaders and the local community. The ideal candidate will have proven project management experience, specialized in agriculture, and a strong background in business development. Experience working in Tanzania and/or elsewhere in Sub-Sahara Africa is a definite benefit, as is a working knowledge of Swahili. A technical understanding of one or more of the other business focus areas of JSBC in income generation or health is also a plus for cross collaboration. Qualifications: B.A/Sc. in agronomy or business and an excellent academic record. MBA preferred. At least 5 years of professional agri-business management experience in a leadership role. Significant experience living and working in East Africa (Tanzania preferred). Excellent people and robust program management skills with significant interpersonal and communication skills, especially in multicultural and multi-ethnic context. Demonstrable skills in project implementation, including performance monitoring, budget preparation and tracking. Adept at developing and sustaining high-level relationships. Strong analytical skills and strategic capacities. Strong team player and consensus builder and network and be adept at working with multiple stakeholders. Excellent command of English; language knowledge of Kiswahili is highly valuable; French is an additional asset.
